seppellite dall’impietosa legge della notiziabilità: troppo lontane, troppo complesse, troppo “scomode”, forse. Così, dentro i confini di casa nostra c’è sempre qualcosa che viene prima, sia una nota politica, sia il delitto del giorno, sia l’andamento del mercato mondiale, piuttosto che i risultati delle partite di calcio. Fin qui, niente da dire: tutto più che degno di far parte della scaletta quotidiana dei tg, della scelta dei giornali. Ci si chiede però se, nel mare magnum della comunicazione in cui siamo immersi, non si possa trovare spazio per portare all’attenzione dell’opinione pubblica qualcosa di diverso.
E se già nel 2006 le crisi umanitarie mondiali occupavano il 10% del totale delle notizie mandate in onda, nel 2008 la copertura è diminuita ancora, attestandosi sul 6% del totale. A denunciarlo è Medici Senza Frontiere e l’Osservatorio di Pavia nel loro rapporto annuale sulle crisi dimenticate. Il monitoraggio si riferisce in particolare all’informazione di Rai e Mediaset, nelle edizioni del mattino, di mezza giornata e nel prime time. Su un totale di 81.360 notizie, solo 4901 riguardano le crisi più gravi del pianeta.
Di qui il paradosso: in un mondo in cui il pensiero e le azioni sono sempre più globalizzate, è ancora possibile riservare così poco spazio a ciò che succede al di fuori dei confini “occidentali”? Spesso, poi, non c’è nemmeno bisogno di uscirne. L’HIV e la TBC sono una piaga che non conosce confini, tanto per citarne una fra le tante.
Questo blog nasce da questo. Dall’allarme di Medici Senza Frontiere, dalla voglia di indagare, di conoscere quanto di grave succede nel mondo e rimane al di là del cancello dell’informazione. Forse con un pizzico di ambizione: sfatare il mito che la lontananza geografica ne dimezzi automaticamente l’interesse pubblico. Di migranti, solo in Italia, ne arrivano a centinaia: quando si decide di lasciare il proprio paese, lo si fa per un buon motivo. Con l’integrazione, poi, ci si fa i conti qui, a un passo da casa.

Forgotten crises: a “short memory” made in italy
Buried by the strict law of gatekeeping: too far, too complex, too "uncomfortable", perhaps. Thus, within the boundaries of our country there’s always something that comes first, would it be something about politics, or the crime of the day; maybe is the evolution of the world market, rather than the results of football matches. And in fact, there’s nothing wrong: is all more than worthy of being part of the news agenda. The question is, hovewer, to decide if it’s possible to find a place in that agenda where crisis can emerge. And in this mare magnum of communication we are drown in, the answer need to be: of course.
In 2006, humanitarian worldwide crises occupied the 10% of the total of the news. In 2008 the coverage has already decreased: only the 6% of the total. These are the results of the annual report on forgotten crisis draft by Medecins Sans Frontierès and the Observatory of Pavia. The monitoring refers, in particular, to Rai and Mediaset, in the news editions of the morning, half day and in prime time. On a total of 81,360 News, only 4901 concern the most serious crisis of the planet.
And here’s the paradox: in a world in which thoughts and actions are getting more and more global, is still possible to reserve that tiny space to what happens outside the borders of the West? Often, moreover, there’s no need to cross the borderline. HIV and TBC are curses with no boundaries, just to mention the most known.

From the warning of Medecins Sans Frontierès, from the desire to investigate, to know all the serious things that happens in the world and remains beyond the gate of information. Perhaps, with a pinch of ambition: explode the theory that geographic distance automatically brings the public interest down. Only in Italy almost every day hundreds of immigrants tries to get our coast. And when someone decide to leave his country, for sure has a leg to stand on. And we need to face integration here, just a step from our home.
